He also stopped in at local radio stations and the Bend Bulletin to discuss what he is working on in Washington. First, Walden met with the Redmond Band of Brothers. He shared his experience at the recent christening of the future U.S.S. Oregon and updated the crowd on what he is working on in Washington to help veterans and their families. Walden spoke about a variety of new laws to help veterans, including the recent implementation of the community care program, a part of the VA MISSION ACT,which will provide veterans with improved access to quality healthcare. Walden speaks to the Redmond Band of Brothers. After meeting with the Band of Brothers, he continued discussions about his efforts to help veterans during a meeting with the Central Oregon Submarine Group. The group was interested to hear about Walden's experience at the christening of the newest U.S. Navy submarine and to share their own submarine tales. The conversation then led to the veterans telling Walden about the needs and concerns that they have as veterans and ideas onhow to better meet those needs. Walden meets with Central Oregon Submarine Group. While in Central Oregon, Walden also held a roundtable discussion with a diverse group of local leaders in LaPine. The group consisted of locally elected officials, veterans, business owners, and hunters.They discussed a wide range of topics including forest management, the cougar and wolf management and their impacts on the deer and elk populations, andthe opioid epidemic and its impact on the local community.
