These grants will assist state and local governments in keeping consumers, businesses, and workers accessible and connected. I commend DOT and our municipal governments for their hard work in advancing our shared goals of connectivity and economic expansion. These grants will be used to both purchase new vehicles and construct and renovate facilities for the Piedmont. The award will be split into two different accounts, with $17,275,000 going to the North Carolina Department of Transportation and $6,768,000 going to the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART). PART serves municipalities in Guilford, Alamance, Randolph, Forsyth, Davidson, and Surry Counties. This announcement will add to North Carolina's bus transportation system. In the Sixth Congressional District, there are several public transportation systems which utilize expansive bus systems to supplement state efforts. The Greensboro Transit Agency (GTA) currently operates approximately 260,000 people with 16 different routes in Guilford County. Burlington and Gibsonville are currently served by Link Transit and Chatham County serves Pittsboro and the surrounding municipalities through the Chatham Transit Network.
