U.S. Representative Mark Walker (R-N.C.) honored Randolph County's Kyosha Lowery as the Sixth District Community Hero of the Month for November 2019. Each month, Rep. Walker awards a constituent, business, or organization in his district for displaying extraordinary acts of service and for making a difference in the lives around them. Kyosha Lowery is the founder of Leach Helping Hands, a nonprofit that gives hygiene bags and other items to those in need. Her desire to give back is sparked by her own hardships growing up. She often helped with the bills, and was blessed to receive the assistance of her church, teachers, and a social worker at her school when the family was short on funds and supplies. Inspired by those who helped her, she has now collected over 500 hygiene bags for middle and high school students in need. She points out that while there are many school supply donations, people often don't realize the need for hygiene items. The hygiene bags are discreetly distributed by school social workers upon request, and the bags also contain encouraging quotes. I'm inspired by Kyosha's positive outlook, enthusiasm, and willingness to dedicate so much of her time and resources to helping others. She knows what it's like to be in need, and these bags provide supplies and encouragement to others, Walker said. I have no doubt that Kyosha will continue to make a difference in Randolph County and beyond. The proud Asheboro High School graduate is now a business student who wants to give back. She was presented with a certificate and a flag flown over the Capitol in her honor. Read more of Kyosha's inspiring story here. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
