This has to stop, Walker said. North Carolina public officials who would rather release criminal illegal immigrant child sex offenders back onto our streets than work with the Trump Administration are endangering our communities. We have to put North Carolina's families and safety over politics. The roundtable is in response to recent legislation passed by the North Carolina General Assembly to prohibit counties or cities from being a sanctuary jurisdiction and failing to comply with federal enforcement agencies. Governor Roy Cooper (D-N.C.) vetoed this legislation. Currently, 90% of ICE arrests are convicted criminals and roughly 70% of the arrests are made at local jails and state prisons across the country. ICE reported in September that North Carolina jurisdictions have released 489 illegal immigrants with criminal records since October 2018. These crimes include sex offenses, kidnapping, arson, and homicide. On the federal level, Representative Walker has supported the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act and Kate's Law. These pieces of legislation threatened federal grants for sanctuary jurisdictions and raised penalties for those re-entering the United States after deportation.Watch Walker's full remarks here or below. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
