Walker served as a Conferee for this year's NDAA Conference Committee. The legislation passed in a 376-48 vote. North Carolina is the nation's most-military friendly state and as a leader in the conference for this defense bill, we have put North Carolina's military families first. The NDAA provides the largest pay raise in a decade for our servicemembers and provides for our most critical military programs and cutting edge equipment, Walker said. This legislation keeps America safer and stronger while fully equipping our military to complete their missions and advance our interests abroad. This legislation authorizes and prioritizes funding for the DoD and military activities and construction, and prescribes military personnel strengths for Fiscal Year 2020. Major provisions of the legislation include: 3.1% pay raise for American troops - the largest in a decade, Enhanced family benefits and support, Additional resources for military readiness, including nuclear weapons modernization, F-35 procurement and new standards for aircraft carrier preparedness, $5.3 billion for emergency disaster recovery to restore installations, including those at Camp Lejeune, NC, Prohibition on transferring Guantanamo Bay detainees to the U.S. mainland, and No restrictions on the transfer authority for funds to be directed towards a border wall.
