U.S. Representative Mimi Walters (CA-45) today sent the following letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch, demanding answers regarding the Department of Justices (DOJ) investigations into the various scandals plaguing the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). On November 17th, 2015, Rep. Walters questioned AG Lynch during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on the DOJs investigations into the VA. AG Lynch was unable to provide answers, but insisted that the DOJs Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA) would be able to provide information to Rep. Walters office. Yesterday, on December 16th, 2015, OLA broke that promise by refusing to answer the questions posed by Rep. Walters at the November 17th hearing and failed to provide any information related to the DOJs investigations. In response to this egregious stonewalling by the DOJ, Rep. Walters sent a letter to AG Lynch requesting an in-person meeting with an appropriate DOJ official who can provide answers to the questions asked, as promised during the hearing. Mimi Walters, Like most Americans, I am horrified by the scandals that took place at the VA our veterans risked life and limb to serve our nation, and they deserve the utmost quality care. As my interaction with Attorney General Loretta Lynch shows the DOJ has failed to provide answers regarding their investigations, effectively blocking Congress ability to address the problems in the VA for the betterment of our veterans. I am appalled by DOJs obstruction of legitimate congressional oversight and I will not stand by while our veterans continue to suffer as the VA and DOJ play political games. I will continue to fight for justice and ensure our veterans get the answers and care they earned.
