Mimi Walters Wildfire Relief Bill Included In Emergency Disaster Aid Package Washington, DC Congresswoman Mimi Walters (R-California) released the following statement regarding passage of H.R. 4667, the Emergency Disaster Aid Package. This disaster relief package will deliver additional funding and tax relief for ongoing recovery efforts in the wake of this years natural disasters, including the California wildfires. Specifically, this legislation includes language previously introduced by Rep. Walters, the California Wildfire Disaster Relief Act of 2017, which will allow victims of the 2017 California wildfires declared a major disaster by the Administration to deduct property damage costs from their taxes. It will also allow victims to take penalty-free withdrawals from their retirement accounts, and encourage others to make charitable contributions to help those in need. Said Rep. Walters, The 2017 wildfire season has ravaged California, displaced families, destroyed homes and businesses, and sadly, claimed lives. The need for relief and assistance is immediate. I am pleased that my bill, the California Wildfire Disaster Relief Act of 2017, is included in the Emergency Disaster Aid Package to help mitigate the financial burdens of these devastating wildfires.
