Today, U.S. Representative Tim Walz (MN-01) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 1370: Since the last continuing resolution, which I supported, Congressional Republicans had two weeks and an entire year before that to reach across the aisle to work out a bipartisan long-term funding deal. I stood ready, as I still do, to work with them to find common ground on a long-term funding measure that provides our military the resources and certainty it needs to plan into the future and ensures the Department of Veterans Affairs has the capacity to directly deliver quality and timely health care to our veterans. Instead, Republicans in Congress once again chose the path of partisanship and prioritized their devastating tax bill, of which 83% of tax cuts will go to the wealthiest one percent and 13 million Americans will lose health coverage due to their repeal of the ACA individual mandate. In doing so, they neglected Congress obligation to give our service members and the VA the long-term funding and certainty they require and deserve. While it is absolutely critical that the VA Choice Program continue to be funded, this stop-gap measure fails to live up to the promise we made to our veterans. My Republican colleagues also chose to turn their backs on bipartisan proposals which I fully support including protecting the 125,000 Minnesota children who rely on the Childrens Health Insurance Program through passage of a clean, full CHIP reauthorization, as well as protecting Americas Dreamers through passage of the Dream Act. My constituents are sick and tired of this constant partisan gameshow Republicans are playing here on Capitol Hill. Its long past time for my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to recognize that working with Democrats is whats best for the country. We are all Americans, and we were all sent to Washington to work together to solve our nations challenges.
