Young November 13, 2013 WASHINGTON, D.C. – The president today signed legislation by U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) and others to rename the Bay Pines Veterans Administration Medical Center in Florida after the late U.S. Rep. C.W. "Bill" Young. Nelson, who serves as a senior member of the Senate’s Armed Services Committee, was able to fast track the bill through the Senate, where it was approved Oct. 31 following House passage the week before. President Obama signed the bill today. “This is a fitting way to recognize Bill Young’s extraordinary legacy of public service and his unwavering support of our veterans,” Nelson said today. After 42 years in Congress, Young died Oct. 18 and was recently laid to rest in the Bay Pines National Cemetery adjacent to the medical center that will now bear his name.
