Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), Jim Costa (D-CA), Peter Welch (D-VT), and Steve Womack (R-AR) released the following statement today in support of the Corn Ethanol Mandate Elimination Act, which was introduced in the Senate today by Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Tom Coburn (R-OK): “The Senate joined the House in calling for reform of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) today. The corn ethanol mandate has increased volatility in the corn markets and diverted corn from food and feed uses to fuel production. We have seen costs increase for not only farmers and food producers throughout the nation, but also consumers who purchase these products. Higher volumes of corn ethanol in fuel have also wreaked havoc on small engines, destroying chainsaws, boat motors, and other equipment. We applaud the efforts of Senators Feinstein and Coburn to eliminate this mandate, which is also a provision included in our House bill, the RFS Reform Act (H.R. 1462).
