Heck's Statement on Vote Against Budget Bill 2013-12-12 2013 2013-12 Republican House NV Joe Heck H001055 web.archive.org     legacy WASHINGTON - Congressman Joe Heck (NV-03) today released the following statement after voting against the proposed budget bill. "I commend the hard work done by Chairmen Ryan and Murray in finding some areas of agreement on this budget agreement and I am opposed to the indiscriminate cuts of the sequester.” “I cannot, however, break faith with the men and women with whom I have served over the past 23 years nor those who served before me. We must provide for those who currently wear the uniform, but not by taking away from those who wore the uniform. This Congress approved the creation of the Military Compensation and Retirement Modernization Commission in the 2013 defense authorization and tasked that commission with studying and making recommendations on military retirement and pension spending. This deal undercuts important work already underway and breaks the time-honored promise to our veterans of not making changes to military retirement for current retirees. We need stability in the budget, but that should not be balanced on the backs of our veterans, families, and survivors who have already sacrificed so much.” *** Congressman Joe Heck represents Nevada's Third Congressional District in the House of Representatives. He serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
