This morning, Congressman Pearce and Chairman Miller visited the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque, where they met with VA Hospital Director George Marnell, toured the facilities, and discussed issues facing New Mexico’s veterans. Later this afternoon, Pearce and Miller will meet with veterans in Roswell regarding the creation of a veterans’ cemetery in the area. At 2:00, Pearce and Miller will hold an open forum at the Roswell Veterans’ Memorial Hall for local veterans to discuss ideas or concerns. Pearce and Miller will also meet with Roswell Mayor Del Jurney and NMDVS Secretary Timothy Hale. “It is of the utmost importance that our veterans are given the care and treatment they deserve,” said Pearce. “My office is committed to continuing its work with local VA leadership to improve care and communicate on behalf of our veterans. I am glad to have Chairman Miller joining me, so that he can better understand the issues faced by New Mexico’s veterans as we work to find solutions in Washington.” Pearce, himself a Vietnam veteran, has made veterans’ issues a priority throughout his time in Congress. He voted this summer to provide $7.7 billion dollars in new funding for PTSD treatment for veterans, and introduced the HEALTHY Vets Act, a bill to help improve the accessibility, convenience, and affordability of health care for veterans.
