WRRDA passed the House by a strong bipartisan vote of 417 to 3. The bill authorizes U.S. Army Corps of Engineers water resource projects throughout the country, including key dams and levees that help to prevent flooding on the Rio Grande in New Mexico, and makes cuts toward wasteful, outdated projects. “Today’s legislation is critical for New Mexico and for the nation,” said Pearce. “As we have seen amidst this year’s drought and flooding, effective management of our dams along the Rio Grande is vital to our state. Today, the House voted overwhelmingly to ensure that the Army Corps of Engineers can continue their important work across the nation, while also saving $12 billion by cutting old, inactive, and unnecessary projects.” In May, the US Senate passed a version of WRRDA, and it is expected that a conference committee will be appointed to reconcile differences between the two bills. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
