Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin announced today. The funding is part of DOE's Clean Energy Economic Opportunities Roadmap program, which supports the development of clean energy manufacturing and services through public-private partnerships. "It is critical that we support our clean energy industries so they can continue to build innovative technologies and create jobs here in Michigan," said Stabenow. "This support will help Michigan businesses and workers compete and win in the global economy to help our state lead the world in these new technologies." "Developing clean-energy solutions is vital to our economic competitiveness and to the future of our environmental future," Levin said. "Federal support for these important development efforts is good news for Michigan workers and Michigan manufacturers." Michigan and the Ohio State Energy Office and their partners will work together on the Michigan-Northeastern Ohio Regional Clean Energy Roadmap Project. The two states' energy offices, along with Michigan's NextEnergy and Ohio's NorTech, will focus on clean energy manufacturing and energy efficient building technology. Some of the specific work includes developing technology roadmaps, asset maps and supply/value chain analysis. In addition, they will seek to identify opportunities for and barriers to clean energy manufacturing. DOE's State Energy Program administers the Clean Energy Economic Opportunities Roadmap program. Roadmaps encourage regional clean energy economic strategic planning and development and support competitive private-sector capability in clean energy manufacturing technologies. Today's $400,000 competitive federal grant will be matched with $302,500 for a total project cost of $702,500. NextEnergy, a Detroit-based 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, supports the demonstration, development and commercialization of advanced energy technology by attracting new investment and participating in advanced energy projects.
