The $24,206,400 grant comes through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Program. Senator Stabenow said, "This is another major investment in the City of Detroit that will go a long way in helping the fire department hire additional firefighters to protect the public. Making sure our first responders have the resources they need is exactly the kind of support that will help Detroit's continued revitalization." Senator Levin said, "There is no more important task that caring for our people in times of emergency. This federal support will make a significant difference for the safety and security of the people of Detroit." The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response program is a part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). These competitive grants help ensure that fire departments nationwide have the frontline firefighters they need to protect their communities.
