Issues Key Issues Legislation News News Biography Press Kit Contact Contact Newsletter Sign Up Biography About Debbie Photo Gallery Committee Assignments Senators Stabenow, Levin Announce Support for the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center to Spur Advanced Manufacturing Jobs U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow, Co-Chair of the bipartisan Senate Manufacturing Caucus, and Carl Levin today announced that the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center in Plymouth has won a $2,268,003 contract to support advanced manufacturing job creation across Michigan. The Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center helps connect small-to-medium sized manufacturing firms with new product developers and assist manufacturers with tools and resources to bring new products to market and to train workers. The National Institute of Standards and Technology awarded the contract, which will fund the Center through June 2014. The Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center is the Michigan affiliate of the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership, a public-private network of centers to support new advanced manufacturing jobs. The Center is headquartered in Plymouth with affiliate offices in Grand Rapids, Marquette, Saginaw, and Traverse City. Senator Stabenow said: "This award is great news for the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center, which is helping manufacturers across our state bring new cutting-edge products to market and create high-tech jobs. We have seen consistent job growth in manufacturing over the past few years thanks in part to the Manufacturing Extension Partnership, which helps our manufacturers grow their businesses and stay competitive in the global economy." Senator Levin said: "Michigan manufacturers and Michigan workers can compete with anybody around the world if we give them the support and training they need. This grant will help the MMTC continue its great work of helping world-class Michigan innovators thrive and grow." Mike Coast, President of the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center said: "This is great news for the MMTC. It allows us to continue to work with Michigan's small and medium sized manufacturers in the areas of increasing capacity and profitable growth.
