The program leverages university research and technical assistance to create new and innovative economic development opportunities in Michigan. "It is critical that we give our universities and businesses the support they need to out-innovate and out-compete the global competition," said Stabenow. "Through partnerships created in this program, Michigan businesses will have support to innovate and create new high-skill jobs here in our state." "The University Center for Regional Economic Innovation at Michigan State has already spurred new ideas for economic vitality for our state," Levin said. "With this grant, the REI University Center can continue to bring together scholars and professional economic developers to create innovative strategies that promote entrepreneurship and job creation in Michigan." The $183,375 grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) will support the University Center program that provides technical assistance and research and development tools to increase productivity, spur innovation, and promote entrepreneurship to help increase regional competitiveness and economic diversification.
