Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin today welcomed the announcement of a federal grant that will support the expansion of the manufacturing base of Big Rapids, help save hundreds of jobs and create new high-skill, high-wage jobs. The $2,576,024 grant from the Economic Development Administration will help fund infrastructure improvements to the Big Rapids Industrial Park. Project planners estimate the project will create 75 jobs, save more than 950 jobs, and leverage $4.75 million in private investment. "This critical investment brings together private-public partnerships to help businesses in Big Rapids create new jobs," said Stabenow. "This will help grow the economy and make Big Rapids an even better place to do business." "This investment will help existing businesses in Big Rapids and attract new ones," Levin said. "With these improvements, more companies will want to call Big Rapids home, spurring growth and creating new jobs." The EDA investment will be used for critical infrastructure improvements to the Big Rapids Industrial Park. The project includes replacement of the Baldwin Street Bridge, demolition of a city-owned building and construction of roadway and water infrastructure. The total project cost is $5,854,600.
