LoBiondo (NJ-02) today announced a $17,100 federal award from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program to the Hammonton Fire Department. In total, 123 organizations in the 2nd Congressional district have been awarded more than $22 million since the program began in 2001. “This is welcome news for the men and women of the Hammonton Fire Department, who protect the residents of Hammonton day in and day out,” said LoBiondo, a member of the Congressional Fire Caucus. “Given tight budgets at many of our municipalities, the AFG program remains a critical resource for our local first responders and an important program I am proud to support.” The Hammonton Fire Department previously received AFG awards in the amounts of $166,963 (2005) and $94,881 (2007). The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awards grants directly to fire departments and emergency services to support their efforts to protect the communities they serve. The Fiscal Year 2012 program will award approximately $337.5 million in competitive grants to first responder organizations across the country to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources required to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administers the program. For the last nine years, Congressman LoBiondo’s office has hosted local seminars for area fire departments to highlight the benefits of this grant program and assist with the application process.
