Congressman George Holding (NC-13), a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, released a statement in advance of the hearing:   “After four months on the job, President Rouhani is doing exactly what the Iranian Supreme Leader put him in power to do – get the Obama administration to weaken international economic sanctions.   Our sanctions are working. Instead of delaying and giving Iranian scientists more time, we should be enacting further measures that the House has already passed to show our allies and the world that a nuclear-armed Iran is unacceptable.   Unfortunately, Secretary Kerry and this administration have been chasing an agreement with Iran that relaxes current sanctions and allows them to continue enriching material and developing their heavy-water reactor. This is the outcome that the regime in Tehran desires, and they won’t have to make any concessions to get it.   I hope the witnesses at tomorrow’s hearing will further highlight how the most recent P5+1 talks failed to stop Tehran’s march towards the bomb and how critical a new round of sanctions is to stopping Iran’s nuclear development.”     ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
