Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013 by a vote of 332 to 94 “The Bipartisan Budget Act shouldn’t be considered a ‘great’ or even a ‘good' deal,” said Davis. “This bill doesn’t do enough to address our debt and deficit spending and offers little in long-term reforms to the way Washington spends money. But, in a divided government, neither side will get everything they want, and that’s the commonsense solution that we approved today. “While this budget agreement is far from perfect, it’s a small step in the right direction. It will finally put a stop to the cycle of continuing resolutions and governing from fiscal crisis to fiscal crisis. So instead of preparing for the next fiscal cliff or threat of a government shutdown, our appropriators can do their work and we can focus our efforts on other important issues like the Farm Bill and Water Resources Reform and Development Act. “Most importantly, we can now return to regular order and move through the constitutional appropriations process, giving us the chance to go line-by-line through the budget, keeping what works and getting rid of what doesn’t. This keeps the power of the purse with Congress and provides a crucial check and balance on the administration.
