The Act is projected to reduce mandatory budget spending by $85 billion and reduce the deficit by $23 billion over the next 10 years. “This is not a grand bargain, nor is it a perfect deal,” said Congressman Luke Messer. “But given our political reality, this is a solid step in the right direction. We have a democratic-led Senate and a democratic President, and we cannot continue to lurch from the brink of one economic crisis to the next. “This deal makes modest reforms that will reduce the deficit without raising taxes. It replaces indiscriminate sequester cuts with smarter ones and secures much needed funding for important domestic and defense programs. “It’s time to put politics aside and make genuine progress here in Washington.
