https://web.archive.org/web/20140309100622/http://rothfus.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=25&itemid=637 Rothfus Working to Protect Military Retiree Benefits 2013-12-19 2013 2013-12 Republican House PA Keith Rothfus R000598 web.archive.org     legacy Washington, D.C. – Congressman Keith Rothfus [PA-12] released the following statement after co-sponsoring solutions to address the cut in cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) for military retirees that were included in the Murray-Ryan budget agreement: “The Murray-Ryan budget agreement is nowhere near perfect,” said Rothfus.  “Although I support replacing across the board sequester cuts with permanent reforms to mandatory spending, I am opposed to cuts to COLAs for military retirees and surviving spouses. “After consulting with local military retirees in Western Pennsylvania and my colleagues in Congress about possible solutions, I co-sponsored two proposals to correct this situation.  Congress should remedy this issue as soon as possible.” Congressman Rothfus is working with Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick [PA-08] on H.R. 3788, legislation that would repeal the budget agreement’s COLA changes entirely and offset the cost with common-sense reforms to the tax code.  He is also working with House Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Jeff Miller [FL-01] on H.R. 3789, legislation that would specifically exempt disabled military retirees and surviving spouses from these changes.
