Congressman Pearce, a cosponsor of this legislation, issued the following statement: “The House voted today not only to reduce unnecessary and duplicative burden on thousands of small businesses nationwide, but also to protect jobs for those most in need,” said Pearce. “Under Obamacare, full-time employment is defined as a 30 hour workweek. Unfortunately, this change creates great conflict within the federal code, which will result in more regulatory burdens on small employers and threatens the hours and employment of predominantly low-income American workers. “As a former small business owner, I know how burdensome the government can be on employers. Congress and this administration should be focused on policies that incentivize employers to hire new workers and increase hours – not call into question the livelihood of millions.” H.R. 2575 repeals the 30-hour full-time employment definition within Obamacare, replacing it with the standard 40-hour definition. Without this simple change, the Hoover Institute estimates that as many as 2.6 million jobs are at risk of reduced hours if the 30-hour rule stays in effect.
