Pearce pushed for the payments to be included in the Agriculture Act of 2014 to fully compensate counties for federal land within their borders. New Mexico will receive nearly $3 million more in funding this fiscal year. "I worked with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to include PILT funding in the final Farm Bill that passed the Senate and the House overwhelmingly. PILT is vital to all of New Mexico, especially our rural counties," said Congressman Steve Pearce. "However, this is only a temporary measure to guarantee our counties get the money they need. I will work with members of Congress to find a permanent solution to fund PILT." The Department of the Interior issued $436.9 million in PILT payments today to over 1,900 local government jurisdictions.
