Res. 124, a continuing resolution to fund the government through December 11, 2014. Sinema released this statement after the vote: “I voted for the continuing resolution to prevent another wasteful government shutdown. In addition to keeping the government open, this bill provides resources to reduce the VA disability claims backlog, improve VA oversight through the VA Inspector General, and protect VA whistleblowers by funding the Office of Special Counsel. “It supports Arizona businesses by extending authorization of the Export-Import Bank, which creates jobs by enabling Arizona businesses to increase exports. It also protects important opportunities for education, information sharing, and economic growth by blocking taxes on internet access. “This resolution is only temporary and Congress has more work to do. I will continue to work with anyone to find common sense, long-term budget solutions that put America on a sustainable fiscal path, create jobs, and grow the economy.” The continuing resolution also included an amendment, known as the McKeon amendment, to authorize the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Secretary of State, to train and equip appropriately vetted elements of the Syrian opposition. The resolution does not provide additional funding for this purpose and does not commit US troops to ground operations in Iraq or Syria.  Congresswoman Sinema released this statement after supporting the amendment: “I share the concerns of many Arizonans, and I am greatly disturbed by the horrendous actions of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). They pose a significant threat to regional stability, our allies, and our country.  “I do not support putting US boots on the ground in Syria. The US and the international community should support the Syrian opposition, Iraqi, and Kurdish efforts to protect innocent civilians, and defeat this terrorist organization. The McKeon amendment provides this support.”   ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
