Since then, we continued our work to reform the VA and get veterans the care they deserve. This month, we released our Veterans Resource Guide, a comprehensive information source on services available to veterans and their families. In Arizona, we are also working hard to create high-tech, high-wage Arizona manufacturing jobs, protect Medicare, and combat sexual assault at schools like ASU. We highlight these and other efforts in this month's newsletter. We will keep you updated as we continue our work on these and other issues that matter to Arizona's Ninth Congressional District. Be sure to stay connected through our Facebook and Twitter accounts, and let us know how we can be of service. Sincerely, Kyrsten   Fighting for Arizona Veterans After listening to veterans in our district, we found that many were unaware or did not have access to all the community resources available to them. To meet this need, we produced our "Veteran Resource Guide for Congressional District 9," a comprehensive 27-page source for services available to veterans and their families, such as mental health treatment, financial assistance, employment resources, and housing, and the most up to date contact information for resource providers.Click Here to download the Veteran Resource Guide. In Washington, the House Veterans Affairs Committee passed our veterans mental health bill (H.R. 3387). For the past year, we worked closely with the parents of Sgt. Daniel Somers – a veteran from our district who took his own life after the Phoenix VA failed to provide him with the care he needed – to pass these crucial reforms to the VA system.Click here to learn more about this bill.  Meeting with the Mesa Community College Military Students Alliance The Violence Against Women Act's 20th Anniversary   Saturday, September 13 marked the 20th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), which protects millions of women and their families from domestic and sexual violence. In January 2013, we led the fight to reauthorize VAWA and strengthen its protections for Arizona women and their families. In honor of VAWA's 20th anniversary, we announced our co-sponsorship of the Campus Accountability and Safety Act, which empowers sexual assault survivors and protects men and women on college campuses in Arizona. This bipartisan legislation establishes new campus resources and support services for student survivors, ensures minimum training standards for on-campus personnel, and creates new historic transparency requirements. Click here to learn more about this bill. Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one of our partners in the fight to reauthorize VAWA In May, we passed an amendment increasing funding for campus sexual assault grant programs.
