The U.S. and partner nations “are undertaking military action” against the Islamic militant group in Syria, Pentagon press secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby said in a statement. “The decision to conduct these strikes was made earlier today by the U.S. Central Command commander under authorization granted him by the commander in chief.” The U.S. Central Command, in a statement early Tuesday morning, said Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain participated in the new airstrikes.
