Congress needs to be intimately involved on questions of duration and the extent of the action.” “The President is relying on legal justifications for the military action from post-9/11 authority granted by Congress at that time,” Fortenberry continued. “The time elapsed and current circumstances are different enough to warrant a review. Considering the scope of the military action and the serious nature of the ISIL threat, we should not wait until November for a constructive debate on the legal authority and the President’s plan.” “Ultimately, this is about following the constitutionally mandated relationship between the Administration and Congress on serious issues of national security,” Fortenberry said. “Many Nebraskans are understandably concerned.” Fortenberry is a member of the House Appropriations Committee. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
