Wisconsin is one of 36 states that has been invited by the Obama Administration to apply for a share of $250 million in Preschool Development Expansion Grants directed to help states develop and expand high-quality preschool programs for low- and moderate-income children. The Badger State is eligible for up to $15 million dollars a year in funding for a period of four years. However, on September 11th the Walker Administration missed a deadline to notify the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services of Wisconsin’s intention to apply for a federal grant. The federal funding would allow some Wisconsin school districts to expand 4-year-old kindergarten to full-day kindergarten and reduce the costs to local school district budgets.
