Gregg Harper (R–Miss.) has co-signed a letter to President Obama about the U.S. response to protect Americans from Ebola. This bipartisan letter authored by Rep. Steve Stivers (R-Ohio), urges President Obama to take immediate and decisive action to protect and prevent American citizens from further exposure to the deadly Ebola virus disease.   “With West Africa currently facing an Ebola epidemic, my belief is that this administration must take aggressive action to combat and prevent the spread of this disease in the United States,” said Harper. The letter urges the President to direct the CDC, in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, to order our customs and border agents to begin more active screening of travelers to and from affected countries in West Africa; consider a possible quarantine for any individual who has traveled to or from affected countries within the dormancy period, aside from responsible health and military personnel sent there to fight the disease; and to seek that the State Department impose a travel ban and restrict travel visas issued to citizens of the West African countries experiencing this epidemic, until such countries have defeated the epidemic. “It is of the utmost importance that this Administration takes these commonsense steps to protect U.S. citizens from this Ebola epidemic.” 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
