Only 287 public and 50 private schools were named Blue Ribbon Schools this year, and during the past 32 years, fewer than 7,900 schools have earned this distinction. “This award is an impressive testament to the dedication of the faculty and staff, students and families, and their community,” said Congresswoman Shea-Porter. “The success of the students proves that young minds thrive best when they have a supportive environment at home, in school, and in their community.” Representatives from the National Blue Ribbon Schools will be invited to a recognition ceremony November 11th-12th in Washington, D.C. In addition, the schools will receive a plaque and a National Blue Ribbon School flag. Its doors opened on May 31, 1649. Its vision statement at that time read, "to teach and instruct all the children of or belonging to our Towne, both mayle and femaile, which are capable of learning to write and read and cast accounts". Centre school’s present day vision for learners bears some resemblance to that of 1649. The school takes responsibility to provide students with the fundamental tools for learning and to instill behaviors that will become the cornerstones of future learning. This mission requires vigilance to ensure that all students are both acclimated to our school environment and secure in their learning.
