Sinema, with other members of the Arizona Congressional delegation, sent a letter to the President urging him to swiftly approve Governor Brewer’s request. “Arizonans suffered as a result of this historic flooding, and it’s critical that communities affected by the storms get the assistance they need,” said Sinema. “This declaration will enable our state to rebuild and prepare for future emergencies.” Federal assistance will be available through the Public Assistance Program and the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. The Public Assistance Program will provide assistance for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities in La Paz and Maricopa Counties. The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program will provide grants to communities statewide to implement long-term disaster mitigation measures. In October, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) approved Governor Brewer’s request for a Physical Disaster Declaration for Maricopa County.
