Ed Whitfield (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, today announced that Ms. Brittany Bongiovanni of Beaver Dam has received an offer of appointment to the prestigious United States Naval Academy. As part of the requirements for that appointment, Whitfield provided a Congressional Nomination for Ms. Bongiovanni. “It is my honor to nominate this outstanding individual for appointment to the United States Naval Academy,” said Whitfield. As this young lady now prepares to begin her promising career serving our country, I am confident she will represent the Commonwealth with diligence, honor, and class. I couldn’t be more proud of Ms. Bongiovanni and I wish her well.” Brittany Bongiovanni will graduate from Ohio County High School in May of 2015. She currently holds a 4.0 grade point average and is ranked 1st in her class out of 243 students. Her accomplishments include being a member of the Kentucky Governor’s Scholar Alumni, Cross Country and Track & Field Captain, National Honor Society Vice-President, National Beta Club President, Civil Air Patrol Sergeant, American Red Cross Volunteer, NOAA Sky Warn Volunteer, Investigative Aide for the Kentucky Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, President of 4-H Teen Club, Teen Delegate to the 4-H Council, holding a 1st Degree Black Belt, and being Assistant Instructor in Tae Kwon Do. The United States Naval Academy located in Annapolis, Maryland has been educating, training, and inspiring leaders of character for our United States Navy and Marine Corps since it was established in 1845, and is the second-oldest of the United States five service academies. Students are officers-in-training and are referred to as midshipmen. Tuition for midshipmen is fully funded by the Navy in exchange for an active duty service obligation upon graduation.
