Arrighi (202) 225-6216 (Office) (202) 590-0609 (Mobile) Wichita, KS: Sean Robinson (316) 262-8992 (Office) (316) 644-0832 (Mobile) Congressman Pompeo Announces Service Academy Nominations WASHINGTON, DC Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-KS), a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, today announced 17 Kansans who are receiving a nomination from the Fourth Congressional District of Kansas for appointment to one of the United States service academiesthe U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and the U.S. Naval Academyfor the Class of 2021. These 17 Kansans were selected by Pompeo from the applicants interviewed by the Fourth Districts Service Academy Nominations Board. The board consists of eight Kansans who served in the armed forces, and were chosen by Pompeo to aid in the nominations process. Year after year, the commitment of these young applicants to their education, community, and country never ceases to amaze those of us involved in this selection process, Pompeo said. These young men and womens choice to dedicate their lives to our nation should be commended and celebrated. I will not soon forget the day I learned that I had been nominated by my Congressman to attend West Point. Regardless of which service academy these young people attend, I know this education and experience will serve them well throughout all of their future endeavors. In addition to receiving a nomination, applicants must meet the admission requirements of each service academy. The academies will make the final decisions on who will be accepted in early 2017. The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.
