Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) hosted a reception announcing the top five winners of the Congressional App Challenge. Westerman issued the following statement: "The Fourth District is home to students and entrepreneurs with incredible ideas, and I look forward to the App Challenge every year as an opportunity to showcase that innovation. I'm so proud of every student who took time to create and design their own original app – their creativity is inspiring!" Background The Congressional App Challenge is an annual event in which high school students across the country design and code an original app. The winning team from each congressional district is honored at an event in Washington, D.C., where they present their apps to attendees. This year, the Fourth District received 59 submissions from students, and the winners were announced Monday at a reception at the Mid-America Science Museum. The 2019 Fourth District top five teams are: First Place: Austin Jackson and Brandon White, from Mufreesboro High School, with their app, "Check Me Out." Second Place: A.J. Navarro, Yibing Hu, Tracy Yang and Sydney Crabtree, from Arkansas School of Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts (ASMSA), with their app, "StreamSave." Third Place (tie): Kendal Shamel and Abby Reynolds, from Lake Hamilton High School, with their app, "WorkTally." Third Place(tie): Hannah Grimes, from ASMSA, with her app, "LaTex Command Center." Fourth Place: Max Green, David Huang and Tristan Goodell, from ASMSA, with their app, "ASMSA Cafeteria Buddy."
