Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) hosted a virtual reception announcing the winners of the Congressional App Challenge. Westerman issued the following statement: "I look forward to the Congressional App Challenge every year as a way to showcase the incredible talent of Fourth District students. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet with them in person this year due to COVID-19, but I'm glad we still got to hold the reception virtually so I could congratulate them on all their hard work. It's always difficult to pick a winner!" Background The Congressional App Challenge is an annual event in which middle and high school students across the country design and code their own original apps. The winning team from each congressional district is honored at an event in Washington, D.C., where they present their apps to attendees. This year, the Fourth District received 14 submissions from students, and the winners were announced this evening during a virtual event held on Zoom. The 2020 Fourth District top five teams are: First Place: Jacob Heffington, from Hot Springs High School, with his app, "Hot Springs District COVID-19 Screening." Second Place (tie): Claire Green, Shawn Chen, Eric Fluke and Yibling Hu, from Arkansas School of Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts (ASMSA), with their app, "Capstone Coach." Second Place (tie): Elle Stokes, from Dardanelle High School, with her app, "everyBODY." Third Place: Alexandra Flores, Mikey Gatica, Allisandro Perez and Arielis Rodriguez, from Dardanelle High School, with their app, "AR4U." Fourth Place: David Clark, Soumya Chauhan, Pierce Hickey and Steven Lynch, from ASMSA, with their app, "Terra-Aid." 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-06-28T00:39:51Z
