Williams Statement on House Passage of FY2020 Appropriations Packages 2019-12-17 2019 2019-12 Republican House TX Roger Williams W000816 williams.house.gov williams https://williams.house.gov/media-center/press-releases scraper WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX-25) today released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Fiscal Year 2020 Appropriations packages for national security and defense (H.R. 1158) and domestic programs (H.R. 1865): "Today's passage of the Fiscal Year 2020 Appropriations packages was a disappointing display of what has become business as usual in Washington, D.C. Two pieces of legislation, appropriating nearly $1.4 trillion, were introduced and voted on in less than twenty-four hours. While I have several concerns with the process, I chose to support the national security and defense legislation that delivers a 3.1 percent pay raise for our troops, prioritizes border security efforts, and provides predictability for our military's modernization and readiness programs. "Unfortunately, I could not support the Democrats' decision to include last minute, unnecessary funding increases and a provision that could infringe upon long-standing Second Amendment protections in the domestic priorities legislation. I look forward to continuing my work on behalf of the 25th District to deliver broadband access to rural communities, repeal the excise taxes on craft brewers and distillers, increase military construction funding at Fort Hood, and make individual tax cuts permanent." Congressman Roger Williams represents the 25th Congressional District of Texas, which includes Fort Hood and is home to the III Armored Corps. He serves on the House Committee on Financial Services. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-06-27T23:45:33Z
