This competition is part of a nationwide event that allows high school students from across the country to compete by creating and exhibiting their own software application, or ‘app,’ for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice. Hosted by Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3), the Challenge was open to all high school students in Arkansas’s Third District. From the 11 entries, the winner was selected by a panel judges from the community, including Jeff Amerine of Startup Junkie Consulting, Phyl Amerine of Startup Junkie Consulting, Jessica Boyd of Community Venture Foundation, and Jim Kane of Gemini Development. Today, Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) hosted an award ceremony, where he announced that Caroline Gschwend, who is homeschooled in Rogers, won first place for her app titled “defendUS,” an educational game that explores American history “in a fun and exciting way.” Caroline’s app will be displayed at a kiosk in the U.S. Capitol. “The Congressional App Challenge is an opportunity for Third District high schoolers to showcase their incredible creativity and innovation, and I am proud of every student who participated in this year’s competition,” Womack said. “My sincerest congratulations to Caroline Gschwend of Rogers for her winning app, ‘defendUS.’ It is clear Caroline has a bright future ahead of her, and I look forward to seeing her app on display in the Capitol!” Congressman Steve Womack has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011 and serves on the House Appropriations Defense, Financial Services and General Government, and Labor-Health and Human Services subcommittees and the House Committee on the Budget. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
