The legislation, which will now head to the President's desk to be signed into law, helps reduce the risk that prisoners will recidivate upon release from prison, along with making other reforms. America is the land of promise and opportunity. The First Step Act gives nonviolent, low-risk offenders that very opportunitythe opportunity for a fresh start and the chance to become productive members of society. This bipartisan legislation does so while also ensuring that dangerous and violent prisoners stay behind bars and making our communities safer. I was proud to vote in support of these historic criminal justice reforms. Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas's Third Congressional District since 2011. He serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget and is a member of the House Appropriations defense, military construction-veterans affairs, and labor-health and human services subcommittees.
