Congressman Womack said, “Congress took the first step toward addressing the issues that affect our nation’s agricultural and rural communities by delivering historic tax cuts and needed reforms to our social programs last year in the Working Families Tax Cuts law. Today’s package completes our unfinished business by tackling trade barriers, strengthening broadband connectivity, and supporting research and development.” Congressman Womack continued, “Thanks to the efforts of the Arkansas congressional delegation, we secured language allowing SNAP beneficiaries to purchase hot rotisserie chicken—providing a nutritious food option that is currently prohibited under existing law. I am also pleased to see that this legislation fixes California’s left-wing Proposition 12 by clarifying that states and localities cannot impose unreasonable livestock production standards on producers across the country. America’s agricultural producers and rural families deserve commonsense solutions and certainty, and this legislation delivers exactly that.” More bill highlights: Strengthens American farmers and rural communities by: Increasing funding for the Market Access Program (MAP) and Foreign Market Development Program (FMD) to support enhanced market access and trade promotion. Strengthening Rural Broadband Program loans and grants to support increased broadband service to underserved rural communities. Reauthorizing crucial USDA Rural Development business and grant programs. Reauthorizing the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative and other grant programs that advance cutting-edge research and technology at our Land Grant Universities. The bill text is available HERE.
