The measure extends our farm safety net through 2023, and brings with it much sought-after certainty for many across the country, including Forsyth County and Seventh District farmers. Seventh District U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall had previously led debate on the measure, and supported its passage today. The measure will now head to the President to be signed into law. I'm proud of the work done in reaching consensus on this bill that is good for farmers, Georgians, and America, and I'm pleased to support its passage today, said Rep. Woodall. For most of us, we aren't aware of the challenges our local farmers face on a daily basis, but we absolutely benefit from their efforts every time we visit the grocery store or sit down to a meal. Forsyth County and the State of Georgia has a very robust agriculture industry. Those families assume great risk and work tremendously hard to ensure the availability of products we often take for granted. So whether it's the crop insurance, loan programs, investment in agricultural research, or much more contained in the bill we passed today, we owe them that same commitment in providing long-term policy certainty. Farming is Georgia's largest and oldest industry, contributing an estimated $73 billion to the state's economy annually, with over 42,000 farms in operation statewide. In the Seventh District with a heavy emphasis in Forsyth County a robust farming community includes a poultry industry that, in 2016, was responsible for as much as $2.65 billion in total economic activity, creating or supporting as many as 11,476 total jobs. Those within the farming industry often times find themselves at the mercy of Mother Nature, and increasingly, in competition with global markets rife with foreign subsidies and trade barriers. H.R. 2 addresses many of these uncertainties for American families. The American people count on Georgia's farmers; and they should be able to count on us in return. The partnership that culminated in passage of this important bill is worth noting. We don't always hear about our shared successes, but they happen daily, concluded Woodall.
