WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 16, 2015 Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today said it is very good news that the fiscal year 2016 Omnibus Appropriations bill expected to be approved by both Houses of Congress and signed into law by the president includes full funding for a new federal courthouse in Nashville. The Senate appropriations bill, at my request, included $181.5million to fully fund construction of the Nashville federal courthouse, and now the House of Representatives' appropriations bill agrees. This is a rare move because it funds the courthouse all at once instead of creating uncertainty and waste by spreading the project out over several years. Alexander continued, I want to thank Sen. John Boozman (R-Ark.) and Rep. Ander Crenshaw (R-Fla.), Chairmen of the Senate and House Financial Services and General Government appropriations subcommittees, for their efforts to include funding for the Nashville federal courthouse because it will increase safety for those working and visiting the courthouse. The Nashville federal courthouse has been on the Administrative Office of the Courts Five Year Plan for 18 years and ranks No. 1 on the federal judiciarys nationwide priority list. Congress has already appropriated $26.1 million for the new courthouse, and the site has been acquired and is ready for construction. The current federal building and courthouse face several security concerns. The fiscal year 2016 Omnibus Appropriations bill announced today was negotiated by the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives and includes enough money to build a new federal courthouse in Nashville. The Senate is expected to vote on the bill later this week.
