The federal funding will be used to develop more than four acres of land along the Fox River for community use, including a dog park, event space, urban beach, and park amenities. The National Park Service Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant comes through the 2023 government funding legislation, which Senator Baldwin supported. “This investment not only protects our environment and Wisconsinites health, but also allows Green Bay to reclaim this space to grow their economy,” said Senator Baldwin. “As a strong advocate for the Land and Water Conservation Fund, I was proud to help deliver these resources for Green Bay to transform this once vacant site into a space where the community can gather and attract new visitors.” The Shipyard Project will transform a former industrial port that was once a vacant brownfield into an asset for the community. Once completed, the project promises to be a destination for recreation and tourism in Green Bay. The federal funding will go toward Phase 2 of the project, including the construction of a great lawn for recreating and events, a dog park, urban beach, adventure playground, restroom and locker facility, stormwater infrastructure, play fountain, fitness court and outdoor gym, and other park amenities like seating and bike racks. “This substantial grant allows us to implement Phase 2 of our Shipyard project, which includes a great lawn, dog park, urban beach, adventure playground, and splash pad,” said Eric Genrich, the Mayor of Green Bay. “The Shipyard’s success is key to our continued efforts to enhance our downtown, spur economic activity, and provide greater access to our waterfront. We’re grateful for Senator Baldwin’s support of the project and, as always, for her strong advocacy for the city and state.” Senator Baldwin has been a strong supporter of the LWCF program, advocating for its continued funding in the annual budget process. LWCF supports increased public access to and protection of federal public lands and waters — including national parks, forests, wildlife refuges and recreation areas — and provides matching grants to state governments for the acquisition and development of public parks and other outdoor recreation sites. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources sponsored this project on behalf of the City of Green Bay. ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-08T00:49:26Z
