Booker was a key partner in the successful effort to expand the Child Tax Credit for 2021, and has been pushing for a renewal of the expansion ever since. “Once again, Senate Republicans have proven that they have no interest in policies that would put more money in the pockets of working families. This tax deal—which was a result of bipartisan negotiations and passed overwhelmingly through the Republican-controlled House—offered an expanded Child Tax Credit that would benefit about 16 million children nationwide who have been left behind by the current program. The deal also included increased funding for the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, tax relief for victims of natural disasters, and billions of dollars for businesses to enhance research and development. I am profoundly disappointed that my Republican colleagues, many of whom claim to be pro-child and pro-family, have opted to obstruct meaningful policy progress that would help end the moral obscenity of child poverty. “I will continue my work to create a tax code that better reflects our shared values and supports working Americans and families with kids.
