It dramatically cuts funding for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and reins in abuses like the agency’s proposed ‘waters of the United States’ rule and its effort to ban lead ammunition and sinkers. The bill prevents bailouts of losses insurance companies incur as a result of Obamacare, protects free speech by cutting funds for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to prevent taxpayers from ideological targeting, protects jobs by limiting the negative effects of the Dodd-Frank law and requires the government to provide advanced funding for veterans disability benefits to ensure they get their earned benefits regardless of any future shutdowns. This bill only funds the Department of Homeland Security through February setting up the opportunity for a Republican-controlled Senate to take action against the President's executive order on immigration early next year. I supported Senator Ted Cruz’s efforts to force a vote on a measure preventing the President from moving forward with his actions, but Harry Reid’s ‘last stand’ as Majority Leader was to protect President Obama and his abuses of power one final time. I am confident that under new leadership, the Senate will be able to take action against the President’s overreach. Finally, the process has been broken for quite some time and this bill is a reflection of what needs to change when we take control of the Senate. We must return to regular order, passing each individual funding bill on time, instead of continuing resolutions and omnibus bills which have been all too common in Majority Leader Reid’s mismanaged Senate.” | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
