Housing affordability is one of the biggest challenges facing families across Alabama and our nation, and I’m proud to work with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to advance meaningful, lasting solutions that help more families achieve the American Dream of homeownership,” said Senator Britt. “The Bipartisan Policy Center is honored to name Senator Katie Britt a 2026 recipient of the Terwilliger Bipartisanship in Housing Award. Her advocacy in the Senate reflects a genuine commitment to improving the lives of Alabamians and Americans across our nation. In large part because of her tireless efforts, several pieces of legislation this Congress, including her bill, the Helping More Families Save Act, were enacted into law. As Chair of the Housing, Transportation, and Community Development Subcommittee on the Senate Banking Committee, Senator Britt has prioritized addressing a number of housing-related issues, including homelessness and housing supply expansion. She recently praised the enactment of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which included several of her bipartisan housing priorities. Among those were the Helping More Families Save Act, which establishes a pilot program to expand participation in the HUD Family Self Sufficiency Program, the Housing Unhoused Disabled Veterans Act, which will ensure veterans who receive disability payments from their service do not have their eligibility penalized for housing support, and the Housing Supply Expansion Act of 2025, which will remove an unnecessary federal requirement that manufactured homes maintain a permanent chassis.
