Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) released a new episode of his new podcast, Canarycast. The latest episode is titled, Dont take what we earned, and features discussions with Ohio Teamsters in danger of losing the pensions they worked for. Brown introduced legislation to ensure that Ohio retirees can keep the pensions they have earned. Download Canarycast, Episode 2 Dont take what we earned: Brown joins Mike Walden, President of the National United Committee to Protect Pensions, and Rita Lewis, a widow of a southwest Ohio Teamster, who has continued her late husbands fight for the retirement security American workers earned over a lifetime of hard work. Brown named the bill The Butch Lewis Act, after Butch Lewis, Ritas husband and the former retired head of Teamsters Local 100. Browns legislation would put the pension plans back on solid footing. Workers gladly gave up higher pay for the promise of a pension to be there when they retired, said Brown. They earned their pensions and they gave up pay raises to do it. Americans value hard work and they deserve a government and a society that does the same. One way Congress can value work right away is to pass the Butch Lewis Act and protect these pensions. Browns podcast is named Canarycast, a nod to the canary pin Brown wears on his lapel instead of the official Senate pin. An Ohio steelworker gave Brown the pin. He wears it as a reminder of the progress the country has made since the days when the only thing coal miners had to protect them was a canary and all the work still left to do to ensure American workers are valued. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
