Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced an $896,255 investment for The Ohio State University’s Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) in Wooster to conduct research that promotes food safety and nutrition. Researchers at OARDC received two grants, one to research effective ways to ensure canned foods are safe for consumers to eat and another to extend the storage life of healthy fruit juices. “As a national leader in agricultural research and food production, Ohio has the experience and expertise to ensure our food is safe and nutritious to eat,” said Brown. “This investment will help OARDC researchers advance the science that protects the food that Ohio families eat.”     OSU Wooster received the grant investment through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) program. The program was authorized by the 2014 Farm Bill, which Brown helped to negotiate. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
