Sherrod Brown (D-OH) pushed for an amendment to the Senate tax bill to ensure that working parents get a meaningful tax break under the Senate bill. Brown’s amendment would allow families to earn the Child Tax Credit more quickly, increase the Child Tax Credit to $2,000, and $2,500 for families with children under six, and it would make the credit fully-refundable for the first time. Brown’s amendment would do significantly more for families with incomes below $50,000 and families with two or more children than the Republican proposal. “If we want to cut taxes for the middle class, let’s cut taxes for the middle class,” said Brown. “Instead of giving the money to corporations and hoping it trickles down – let’s cut out the middle-man and put the money directly in the pockets of working families.” Senate Republicans voted down Brown’s amendment. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
